The Secret To Amazing Networks

By Thomas Perches

So, you've finally decided to take the plunge and launch your business's first website. You have been dreaming big; you want a snazzy design, a great looking portfolio, and of course an e-commerce function. You know that people can't buy it if they don't know that it exists yet. You already know that having a website will drastically increase your sales, allowing people in other states (and even countries!) to purchase your products. But did you know how important it was to take great care in choosing a web host?

Before your new website goes live, you'll need to consider a few things. First and foremost, you'll need to know where your website will be hosted. The technical jargon may make sense to some, but for our intents and purposes, we will think of web hosting as virtual real estate. Just as you would have to purchase a plot of land in order to build a home, you need to have a web host to build a website. There are servers that exist only for this purpose, and this purpose only; for a small monthly fee, they will serve as your very own virtual plot of land.

Simply put, a server hosts websites. After specially configured with high-end server software, these computers allow people from around the world to view your site. If you think this sounds simple, you have assumed incorrectly; the vast and complex world wide web is best left to the professionals. Unless, of course, you happen to know what the words "port forwarding" or "firewall" mean.

First thing is first: you'll need to build your website. You can do this using a basic text editor, a website building program, or a paid professional. If you can't afford to spend a lot of money, consider finding a web host that has a pre-made template. After you have all of your content, you get to move on to the fun stuff: picking a domain name! A unique domain name will set you apart from the competition and allow people easy access to your products. Once you've obtained an address for your business, you can begin to build a home on the land!

You should keep in mind that every web host is different. Some hosts will ask you to pay a lot of money, and others not so much. Because of this, you should make sure to carefully consider your business's web hosting needs. Do you need room for a lot of content? Do you plan on posting a lot of pictures? Will you be hosting large media files? All of these things may effect which web host is best for you. If you do your research, you will be sure to find a web host you love.
