How Much Bandwith Do you Need For Your Site?

By Joshua Zamora

Bandwidth measures the volume of information transmitted over a Web connection. You have got to know how much bandwidth you need before you buy web hosting and not choose the wrong company.

Be cautious when anyone claims they provide unlimited bandwidth or monthly transfer. Anyone claiming "Unlimited Bandwidth" is just lying. There isn't any such thing as "Unlimited Bandwidth".

I have never seen any broadband company offering a Net connection as "Unlimited Megabytes per Second." Therefore how could a web hosting company, which usually doesn't even own its own access lines, claims to customers that it will give them "Unlimited Bandwidth"?

The majority of the time, high bandwidth sites on these "Unlimited" plans will be disconnected, and no refund given. Normally, the web hosting company will say the site violated its Acceptable Use Policy or Details of Service.

When you go to a site promoting "Unlimited Bandwidth" as one of the account features, be certain to go to the Acceptable Use Policy, or the Provisions of Service. Read the fine text about the supposed "Unlimited" disclaimer.

When you first look for website hosting services (those who state obviously bandwidth offered), you've got to make your best estimation and watch your usage carefully in the first few months. Take these factors under consideration while guesstimating.

**How many users will access your site?

**How many pages to be access?

**How giant are the graphic and HTML files?

Massive audio/video files, computer programs, and file downloads need more bandwidth. Flash internet sites use tons of bandwidth. VR (VR) and full-length 3 dimensional audio/visible shows require the most bandwidth of all.

Though it isn't correct, but still gives you something to work with until your website has been online for a while and tangible traffic statistical data have been generated.

Don't fall for the unlimited bandwidth trap that some corporations throw at you.
