Things that Can Cause Your Server to Crash

By Ali Mehmood

Everything that we do on the internet is made possible by some kind of server. Whenever we are e-mailing, surfing a webpage, or playing an online multi-player game, we are actually accessing a server. These wonderful machines are extremely important for today's society. Unfortunately no machine is perfect and web servers are not exception. The most unpleasant thing that can happen to a server is a crash. This is bad because if the server goes down, everything on that server becomes unavailable to end users.

There are many reasons why this could happen, and in this article we will describe a few important ones. The worst part of a server crash is that you never know when the service will be back up. This is very frustrating for users. While gaming you can't choose your server in most cases but you do have a choice for your e-mail and website server, so make sure you choose carefully.

A server works like a road, if too many people try to access it, a traffic jam takes place. The analogy isn't very good but it should have given you the basic idea. When too many people try to visit a particular website the server becomes sluggish, or crashes down completely. If you are a business thinking of investing in a server, keep this factor in mind during the selection process.

Server problems can also be caused by incompatible scripts. If your script uses a programming language that is not supported by your server then the server might slow down and eventually stop working. For instance if you use wordpress then pick a proper wordpress web hosting company.

One of the most vital things that a server should have is a great security system. When a server does not have a proper firewall and anti-virus system, many issues can arise. A hacker can break in, plant a piece of malicious software and leave with anyone noticing. The virus can then slow down the machine, or the server has to be taken down by the owner to fix the issue. Valuable information like credit card data and email addresses are a target for hackers, so keep that in mind during the research.

In addition to the above mentioned problems physical issues can also ruin a server system. Temperature can create a host of problems, and corrosion can damage the important machinery. High humidity causes this. The corrosion eats through the parts of the system, and can even cause a loss of data. However such things rarely happen since most hosting companies take very good care of their systems.

It is important to keep all these things in mind when you are choosing a web host. If you are a business owner, your webpage is vital for your company. You want your site to be up and available at all hours of the day, so when choosing a server, take all necessary preemptive measures.
